Shooting incident in Vantaa linked to debt dispute
According to Iltalehti, a shooting incident at a restaurant-pizzeria in Pähkinärinne, Vantaa, in September stemmed from a dispute related to old debts. A 50-year-old man of foreign descent was injured in the incident, and the suspected shooter is a man in his thirties, also of foreign descent. The two were previously acquainted.
Rauno Jämsä, the lead investigator in the case, mentioned to Iltalehti that the suspect and the victim had argued over the phone before the shooting. “The suspect believed the other man might owe him money, while the victim disagreed. This led to a drastic decision,” Jämsä stated.
He confirmed to Yle that the suspect and victim were connected through the restaurant business, with reports indicating that the victim was a former owner of the pizzeria. “They at least knew each other from that connection, if not beforehand. The key point is that they were familiar with one another and this was not a random shooting,” Jämsä explained.
Jämsä acknowledged that a clear motive for the act has yet to be determined. “There must have been some sort of dispute that led to this act. I cannot recall at the moment whether it was related to money or something else,” he commented.
The investigation is progressing well and is expected to move to the prosecutor after the preliminary investigation is completed. So far, the case has been classified as an attempted murder. Jämsä noted that he could not yet comment on whether the charges might change as the investigation continues but hinted that such a change could be possible.
