Finnish police dog Frodo locates missing 74-year-old man in muddy river
Police dog Frodo sniffed out a 74-year-old man who had sunk into a muddy river in Nurmijärvi, Finland, on Thursday. The police had announced on Wednesday that the man, who had been cycling, was missing from Röykkä in Nurmijärvi between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Despite a search operation that went late into the night and involved volunteers, the man was not found on Wednesday.
On Thursday morning, the police received a report about the missing man’s bicycle, which was found about 25 kilometers away from his home in Nukari. In response, the police dog unit was dispatched to the scene to start the search. After approximately an hour and a half, the man was found submerged up to his navel in a muddy river. His body temperature had significantly dropped, but he was conscious.
The dog unit officer began emergency first aid on the man, who was pulled from the muddy river onto solid ground. An arriving emergency medical unit then took the man for further treatment. The hero of the operation was the 11-month-old patrol dog Frodo, who, according to the police, did an excellent job in finding the man lost in the wilderness and urban area in the nick of time.
The police extended their thanks to the personnel of the volunteer rescue service and the public for their sightings and reports.
