A 39-year-old woman has been charged with bigamy. She is accused of marrying a Faroese man while still being married in her home country in Asia, an act that took place in 2012. The Faroese husband was unaware that she was already married.
In addition to bigamy, the woman faces charges of particularly serious fraud. From January 2012 to April 2017, she led her husband to believe that they had a daughter living in her home country. As a result, he transferred approximately 754,000 Danish kroner to her, which was supposedly meant for the nonexistent daughter.
Precautionary measures have been taken to ensure that the funds will be claimed back. The case was scheduled for hearing in the Faroese court on Thursday. However, the defense requested a postponement, and the hearing has been rescheduled to December.
