Funding decision for Finland’s national broadcaster Yle further delayed as opposition party mulls over compromise proposal
The decision regarding the funding of Yle, Finland’s national public broadcasting company, is set to be further postponed. The opposition party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has announced that it intends to decide its stance on the working group’s compromise proposal only on Thursday.
Matias Marttinen, the chairperson of the parliamentary Yle working group, said on Wednesday that he expects responses from the remaining parliamentary groups by Thursday. Initially, the groups were expected to announce their positions on Wednesday, but the matter was still under consideration by the SDP, the Left Alliance, and the Green League.
Government parties, including the National Coalition Party, the Swedish People’s Party, and the Christian Democrats, have accepted the compromise. The Finns Party has also decided its stance, but it has not yet disclosed what it is. The Centre Party has also accepted the proposal.
