Sirið Stenberg, the Minister of Education, along with Heðin Mortensen, the Mayor of Tórshavn, Karl H. Johansen, the Mayor of Klaksvík, and Tórbjørn Jacobsen, the Mayor of Runavík, have reached an agreement for the three municipalities to provide library services to each other.
This arrangement ensures that all residents will have access to library services, in accordance with the new library law.
The services include library management, cataloging, registration, acquisitions, circulation, classification, searching, guidance, evaluation of materials and sources, as well as the provision of literary resources.
Additionally, the agreement covers the lending of books and other materials for a limited period, and the organization of events.
No fee will be charged for these services, as stated in the agreement.
The government will allocate two million Danish kroner to facilitate collaboration among municipalities on library services. Each municipality will receive 670,000 kroner this year.
The funding will be given to the municipalities of Tórshavn, Klaksvík, and Runavík in exchange for the municipalities arranging agreements with other municipalities in the country regarding library services.
These agreements with the other municipalities will be finalized soon.
