The cause of a devastating barn fire in Siikajoki over the weekend remains undetermined. The fire, which occurred at a barn measuring approximately 2,500 square meters on Vaara-ahontie, resulted in the deaths of dozens of cattle during the early hours of Sunday morning.
Emergency services, police, and insurance representatives are set to investigate the scene by Wednesday at the latest. Fire inspector Pasi Nyman from the North Ostrobothnia Rescue Service estimates that the damages could reach hundreds of thousands of euros, with further assessment required to determine the full extent of the losses. The exact number of deceased animals is still being confirmed, although around fifty animals were reported to have been in the barn when the fire broke out. Some cattle, including calves, were successfully rescued from the structure.
Approximately 70 percent of the barn was destroyed by the fire.
