A tragic apartment fire in Parikkala, Finland, resulted in the death of a resident, according to police investigations. The fire broke out in a small residential building on Särkisalmi at around 1 PM on Sunday. Smoke from the fire spread into the building’s stairwell, prompting the evacuation of the other residents. After proper ventilation, those evacuated were allowed to return to their apartments.
The Southeast Finland police have determined that the fire originated from a stove that had been left on with the door open. The heat from the stove began to melt nearby cabinets, leading to the production of dense smoke within the apartment. Quick action from neighboring residents allowed them to alert emergency services promptly, which helped extinguish the fire before it could escalate into flames or spread to other units.
Currently, police do not suspect any criminal activity related to the incident. They are conducting an investigation into the cause of death and the cause of the fire itself.
