Two ravens found in Leynum have tested positive for avian flu, according to the Health Directorate.

The likelihood of the H5N5 strain of avian flu infecting humans is very low, but it is still a possibility.

The Health Directorate advises people not to touch any sick or dead birds. They also recommend that those with domestic birds keep them indoors, or at least sheltered, to reduce the risk of attracting wild birds to the area.

Doing so greatly decreases the risk of infection.

Footwear can easily become contaminated with bird droppings or other materials from wild birds. Therefore, it is advisable to clean footwear before and after visiting poultry houses and enclosures.

People engaged in bird hunting or those who have been in contact with poultry abroad are advised to avoid domestic birds in the Faroe Islands for at least 48 hours.
