Flooding prompts street closures in central Vejle as residents brace for damage

Several streets in central Vejle, including Vedelsgade, Vesterbrogade, and Staldgaardsgade, have been closed due to flooding, as reported by the local municipality on social media. Throughout the day, heavy rainfall has inundated the area, prompting residents to take precautions.

Bente Andersen, residing in Tønnesgade, is gathering her belongings as she prepares to spend the night at a hotel. This marks the second time this year that water has threatened her apartment. Faced with rising water levels, she laments the overwhelming situation. The power is out, forcing her to rely on candles and a flashlight to navigate her home.

Andersen described the distressing scene as water invades her apartment, stating, “I just can’t comprehend it. It’s too much.” Reports indicate that floodwaters are rushing down the streets, reaching heights of up to forty centimeters.

“It’s terrible. Vejle is being submerged, and living in elevated areas is becoming a necessity because this won’t be the last time,” she remarked. This is not Andersen’s first experience with flooding; her apartment had just undergone renovation after the last incident. Now, she expresses uncertainty about her ability to cope with yet another disaster.

“It’s unbearable. The last time was my first experience. I thought it would be the last, but now, I have to wait and see how severe it gets,” she concluded, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by residents in the area.
