Police drop investigation involving six journalists and a woman in Northeast Iceland

The police in Northeast Iceland have decided to drop their investigation involving six journalists and a woman not associated with the media. The probe included allegations of drugging, unauthorized information copying from an individual’s phone, and the distribution of explicit material.

The individuals involved were informed of the decision via email around midday. The investigation had initially focused on the woman concerning all aspects of the case while the journalists were investigated regarding a single aspect. The case was dismissed as it was deemed unlikely to result in any convictions.

The journalists were affiliated with RÚV, Kjarninn, and Stundin, which later merged into Heimildin. According to the police’s Facebook post, the woman faced scrutiny for allegedly drugging her husband. However, no evidence suggested that anyone else was involved.

The investigation also uncovered that the woman had accessed her husband’s phone and provided it to the media, despite knowing it contained illegal explicit content that required consent for distribution. Additionally, it has been established that the woman sent herself explicit material from her husband’s phone. Yet, there is no evidence that any of those who handled the phone after it was given to the media distributed this explicit content.
