The proposal for an additional budget bill, which includes the plan for the Faroe Islands to obtain independent membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO), was submitted to the Parliament yesterday.

During the state meeting in August this year, it was decided that the question of Faroese membership in the global trade organization would be examined in a legal context between the Faroe Islands and Denmark, in accordance with the Home Rule Act.

This has never been tested before.

As a result, many preparations are needed, according to the Prime Minister’s Office, which is requesting 300,000 Danish kroner for travel expenses and to pay external staff.
