The maximum maternity benefit in the Faroe Islands will be adjusted annually in alignment with wage and price growth, starting from January 1, 2025. The proposed adjustment for this year is set at 3.8%.
This initiative was introduced by the People’s Party, which presented the proposal to the parliament yesterday. The party does not see the need to increase the contribution amount, despite the increase in benefits.
Current regulations allow the government to modify the maximum benefit to correspond with wage trends; however, this authority has never been utilized.
With this proposal, the People’s Party aims to embed in the maternity law the requirement for annual adjustments to benefits. As a result, the existing authority for adjustments will no longer be necessary and will be revoked, according to the party.
