Agreement reached on Aalborg Municipality budget amid council division

An agreement has been reached regarding next year’s budget in Aalborg Municipality, though a significant portion of the city council remains outside the deal. Mayor Lasse Frimand Jensen from the Social Democrats was unable to bring the conservative parties and the Red-Green Alliance into the agreement, which now includes only the Social Democrats, the Socialist People’s Party, and the Radical Left, totaling 16 out of 31 council members. The conservative parties withdrew from negotiations due to disagreements over a special grant from the government, while the Red-Green Alliance opposed proposed cuts to bus services.

As a result of the agreement, plans to lay off 100 educators in daycare facilities have been scrapped. Additionally, the municipality’s climate and environmental department will be dissolved and merged into the urban and rural management department.
