Man charged with attempted murder following knife attack in Kópavogur

A 30-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following a violent incident in Kópavogur last June. The case was presented today at the Reykjaness District Court. The attack occurred near Lund in Kópavogur when the man approached another individual armed with a knife.

The accused allegedly stabbed the victim at least four times in the neck, side, and groin, in an attempt to take his life, as stated in the charges filed.

Reports indicate that the attacker rode up on an electric scooter and recklessly passed by two couples. After a brief exchange of words, he supposedly turned aggressive and attacked the individual, who works as a doctor. The injuries sustained were life-threatening, with the court documents noting that the wounds on the neck were positioned close to vital veins and arteries.

The prosecution is seeking 4 million ISK in damages for the victim and an additional 250,000 ISK to cover medical expenses. Furthermore, compensation for pain and suffering amounting to 500,000 ISK is also being requested.
