Queen Margrethe hospitalized at Rigshospitalet following fall at Fredensborg Castle
Queen Margrethe of Denmark has been hospitalized at Rigshospitalet following a fall at Fredensborg Castle last night. According to the royal family’s communications chief, Lene Balleby, the 84-year-old monarch was taken to the hospital for observation after the incident.
Currently, the queen is reported to be in good spirits under the circumstances, although the royal family has not provided further updates regarding her condition. Her planned attendance at a 5th anniversary event for the Department of Archaeology at Aarhus University has been canceled, as confirmed on the royal family’s website.
Despite having passed the throne to King Frederik, Queen Margrethe remains an active member of the royal family and continues to fulfill official duties. Just yesterday, she attended a conference on multiple sclerosis at the Bella Center in Copenhagen. Earlier in the week, she presented the Rungstedlund Prize at the Karen Blixen Museum.
Queen Margrethe’s decision to abdicate was influenced by health concerns. In February 2023, she underwent significant spinal surgery, which was successful but necessitated a prolonged recovery and rehabilitation period, as stated by the royal family.
