A 44-year-old man has been acquitted by the Faroe Islands court of attempted rape and for engaging in other sexual acts outside of same-sex relations. However, he was found guilty of sexual misconduct for inappropriately touching two girls on three separate occasions.

The court sentenced him to six months in prison, with four months of that sentence being conditional. The incidents of misconduct involving the girls occurred when they were under the age of 12, according to the indictment.

The prosecution had sought a sentence of one and a half to two years in prison for the accused.
