A man in his 30s wanted in connection with a suspected gang-related crime has been arrested in the United Arab Emirates and handed over to Sweden, the Swedish Prosecution Authority said, according to SVT.
The man is being held in custody in his absence and is suspected of planning with others to detonate a hand grenade beneath a police car in Uppsala in April 2020. The explosion never took place, and he denies the allegation.
“The detention decision will now be reviewed with the suspect present,” Senior Prosecutor Andras Nyberg said in a press release.
A 30-year-old man in the same network has been convicted of involvement in the same crime. The United Arab Emirates is among the countries with which Sweden has legal cooperation to secure the extradition of people suspected of serious crimes in Sweden.
