Charges filed against 17-year-old in Ylitornio for rape and sexual assault of minor

A prosecutor has filed charges against a 17-year-old individual of foreign descent for the rape and sexual assault of a minor. The incidents occurred last December during school hours in the restroom facilities at Ainiovaaran School in Ylitornio. The 13-year-old victim and the accused were both students at the same school. The accused has denied the allegations. The case will be heard at the Kemi session of the Lapland District Court in early October. According to a new law enacted at the beginning of the year, sexual intercourse with anyone under the age of 16 is classified as child rape.
