Viborg’s upcoming Museum Wibergis and its cathedral quarter have each won a Red Dot design award, DR reported. The museum has not yet opened to the public.

Museum Wibergis received the award for its brand identity, which brings together its history, name, logo and graphics. The museum is being developed in the former building of the Western High Court.

The cathedral quarter was recognised for a typeface created as a shared identity for the district. Its design draws inspiration from the cathedral towers and the arches of the old town hall. The typeface also appeared on Viborg FF’s away shirt last season.

Museum director Brian Wiborg said the recognition from an international jury was significant, particularly before the museum had opened. He said the award could help attract more visitors.

The designs draw on Viborg’s historic buildings, the city’s history and its creative environment. Museum Wibergis expects to open next spring.

The Red Dot Award is an international design competition that has recognised design projects since 1955. Previous Danish winners include the National Gallery of Denmark.
