A peculiar mystery has emerged in Lapua, South Ostrobothnia, capturing the attention of locals since Monday. In Lapua, city gardeners are responsible for emptying trash bins weekly, and during their routine check in the town center on Monday morning, they made some unusual discoveries.

The first find was a short boot in good condition, identified immediately by gardener Raija Tuomisto as a riding boot, due to her own experience in riding. Further exploration of another trash bin revealed a safety shoe typically used at stables, which had straw-like bedding material inside.

As the day went on, the gardeners continued to discover more riding footwear—two additional pairs, one rubber and one leather. In total, around ten pairs of gently used women’s riding boots, sizes approximately 37-38, were found in trash bins scattered across a nearly three-kilometer area.

The origin of these boots remains a mystery, raising speculation about a potential TikTok challenge. Tuomisto mentioned how significant effort would be needed for someone to dispose of the boots in this manner. The discoveries led to discussions on a local Facebook group, with some suggesting the boots might have been stolen from a stable.

Humorous comments depicted a fanciful link to the local church’s artwork, which depicts equestrians as symbols of pestilence, war, famine, and death. Tuomisto warned that large items like shoes can quickly fill bins, causing trash to spill onto the ground.

The police have not received any reports of equestrian equipment thefts, and the boots have since been taken to a disposal site. While unusual finds do occur occasionally, Tuomisto noted nothing as bizarre as this has happened before.
