Flooding leads to state of uncertainty in Siglufjörður, Iceland
Heavy rainfall and a malfunction in the drainage system have caused flooding in eight homes in Siglufjörður, Iceland. Authorities have declared a state of uncertainty due to the persistent rain and the risk of landslides. One resident awoke to find his home flooded in the middle of the night.
Johann K. Johannsson, fire chief for the Fjallabyggð region, reported that one out of three drainage pumps in the area is non-functional, leading to cascading effects. The cause of the malfunction and the extent of the damage are currently unknown, but response operations today have proceeded well, with expectations for firefighting efforts to conclude this evening.
Thorðar Georg Andersen, a homeowner affected by the flooding, recounted his harrowing experience. He woke up at 3 a.m. sensing something was wrong and discovered his home submerged.
