When Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett marry in Geiranger on August 31, a no-fly zone has been established. However, the police have granted NRK and TV 2 permission to operate drones to capture aerial footage, provided they share images and video with other media outlets. The couple’s management is critical of this decision, as expressed in an email to the police.
Carina Scheele Carlsen, Märtha Louise’s manager, stated that the wedding is not a public event like the princess’s previous marriage in 2002. The couple has sold exclusive photo rights to the British magazine Hello! and Netflix is purportedly involved with rights for video coverage.
The police requested media restrictions for the wedding weekend to ensure the safety of guests listed on the preliminary guest list. Following this, NRK and TV 2 received exemptions from the no-fly restrictions in specific areas. The police clarified their role is limited to ensuring safety and that they cannot prohibit media from filming aerially. They emphasized that any additional restrictions should come from the organizers.
Fredrik Kirkevold, the news manager at TV 2, confirmed their intention to cover the wedding on the grounds that it involves a member of the royal family, marking a significant public interest event.
Simon Eriksen Valvik, responsible for communications for the couple, stated that they are not troubled by the drone permissions and expressed confidence in the ongoing dialogue with the police. He emphasized that there are no major issues regarding the arrangements and that misunderstandings have been effectively resolved.
