Seismic activity rises on Reykjanes Peninsula near Grindavík in Iceland

Seismic activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula continues to rise, particularly around Grindavík, with earthquakes becoming increasingly frequent. In the last 24 hours, 65 tremors have been recorded, including 21 since midnight. Two significant earthquakes of magnitudes 2.2 and 2.4 occurred overnight.

Natural disaster expert Sigríður Magnea Óskarsdóttir noted that the current seismic activity resembles patterns observed prior to previous eruptions. The meteorological office remains on alert, though it is impossible to predict when an eruption might begin, which could potentially happen today or occur later on.
