Worker dies after fall at Stegra steelworks construction site

A 65-year-old man died on Wednesday after falling at the construction site of Stegra’s steelworks in Boden, northern Sweden, Yle reported.

Police said the man fell from a platform and died at the scene. They are investigating the death as a workplace accident. A criminal report has been filed over causing death in connection with a workplace safety offence.

Police said the man was a citizen of a European country, but not Sweden. Finnish newspaper Kaleva reported that he was not Finnish either.

Thousands of people work at the construction site, which has also attracted workers and companies from northern Finland. Stegra said it would not comment on the death of its contractor’s employee until the police investigation is complete.
