Seismic activity stable on Reykjanes Peninsula with no signs of eruptions

Seismic activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula remains stable with no signs of impending volcanic eruptions. According to recent observations, earthquake activity near the Svartsengi geothermal area has been consistent with patterns seen over the past few days, with no indications of volcanic unrest.

Approximately sixty earthquakes have been recorded around the magma chamber in the last 24 hours, including ten occurring after midnight. Most of these tremors registered close to magnitude 1.0; however, several larger quakes were detected near Grindavík this morning, with the largest measuring 2.4 according to preliminary data.

Experts noted that while the accumulation of magma has exceeded levels recorded before the last eruption, it is currently impossible to predict when a new volcanic event may occur in the Sundhnúkur volcanic system. The continual monitoring of seismic activity is crucial for understanding potential volcanic hazards in the region.
