Skulls repatriated from Sweden to Finland amidst ceremony preparations in Pälkäne

Remains of skulls taken from Finland to Sweden in the late 19th century are returning to Finland today, as reported by the Vapriikki Museum Centre. The Finnish government will receive the skulls in Pälkäne this afternoon. The remains will be transported to Pälkäne Church. In total, eighty-two skulls are being repatriated. Most of these skulls were transported to Sweden by anthropologists during their excavation expeditions in the 1870s. Pälkäne is preparing a ceremony to honor the return of the remains, which is scheduled to take place in early September.
