Slippery conditions send Jaeger Brigade truck into ditch

A Jaeger Brigade tracked cargo truck went into a ditch during an exercise at the Rovajärvi military training area late Friday, Yle reported. The driver lost control because the road was slippery, Lapland Jaeger Battalion commander Mikko Bäckström told Yle by email.

There were 16 conscripts aboard. The accident happened during a shooting exercise in freezing temperatures and freezing rain. Speed limits had been set low, and drivers had been told to adjust their driving to the weather, Bäckström said.

One conscript went to Lapland Central Hospital for an examination. All the conscripts involved have returned to service.
