Firefighter and paramedic Bergur Vilhjálmsson is taking on a 12-hour fitness challenge to raise money for Ljósið, mbl.is reports.
The Capital Area Fire and Rescue Service is holding the fundraiser with Bergur. The service says cancer is one of the occupational risk factors for firefighters, making Ljósið’s work particularly close to the team.
Firefighter applicants must pass a fitness test that assesses endurance, strength, concentration and perseverance on a specially designed course. Bergur plans to complete the course at least 40 times. He started at 7.20am.
The challenge can be watched live on the fire service’s Instagram account.
