A man who shot at a woman in Kajaani has been sentenced to six years in prison for attempted manslaughter by the Kainuu District Court. The incident occurred last March when the man intended to inflict violence on a man he knew due to previous disagreements. However, he mistakenly approached the wrong residence and fired shots into a home belonging to an unknown woman.

The man discharged a firearm four times, with two bullets striking the woman, causing life-threatening injuries to her neck. After the shooting, he returned to his car and fled the scene. Fortunately, the victim received prompt medical attention and was hospitalized, ultimately surviving her serious injuries.

The prosecution initially sought a conviction for attempted murder; however, the court determined that the crime fell under attempted manslaughter. The ruling indicated that the act did not involve the premeditated intent associated with murder. The man, identified as Rainer Rickhard Allan Lindgren, born in 1989, admitted to the shooting in court but claimed his intention was to scare the neighboring man by shooting at his window.

In addition to the six-year prison sentence for attempted manslaughter, firearm offenses, and aggravated violation of domestic peace, Lindgren was ordered to pay over €33,000 in damages to the victim. This compensation covers pain and suffering, cosmetic damage, and related distress. The sentence is not yet final, as it can be appealed to a higher court.
