Copenhagen events force weekend road closures

Several major events will cause road closures and traffic diversions across Copenhagen this weekend, DR reports. Copenhagen Pride, Ironman Copenhagen and the Frederiksberg Criterium are expected to attract large crowds.

Katrine Barslund, a traffic presenter on P4 Trafik, advised people to leave their cars at home and avoid driving into central Copenhagen. Several bus routes will be diverted on both Saturday and Sunday, so passengers should check Rejseplanen before travelling by bus, train or metro.

Traffic is expected to be heavier than usual on roads that remain open in Copenhagen and the surrounding metropolitan area.

Central Copenhagen

Roads around City Hall Square will be affected by Copenhagen Pride on Saturday. H. C. Andersens Boulevard will be closed as the parade crosses it.

Several other roads in central Copenhagen, including Christians Brygge on Slotsholmen, will be closed on both Saturday and Sunday because of Ironman Copenhagen.

Amager Strand

Ironman participants will swim at Amager Strand on Sunday before cycling towards central Copenhagen and north along Strandvejen. Roads on Amager leading towards the city are therefore expected to be busy, including Amager Strandvej.

The Ironman course includes a 3.8-kilometre swim at Amager Strandpark, followed by a 180-kilometre cycle ride and a 42.2-kilometre run.

Frederiksberg

The Copenhagen Pride parade will travel through Frederiksberg from 1 p.m. on Saturday. It will start at Frederiksberg City Hall and continue along Allégade, Frederiksberg Allé and Vesterbrogade before ending at City Hall Square in Copenhagen. The roads will be closed while the parade passes.

Parts of Frederiksberg will also be closed on Sunday for the Frederiksberg Criterium cycling race. The 4.2-kilometre course starts and finishes on Frederiksberg Allé and runs around Frederiksberg Gardens.
