Police investigate serious collision between electric scooter riders in Leppävaara, Espoo

The Western Uusimaa Police have initiated a preliminary investigation into an incident in which two men riding electric scooters collided in Leppävaara, Espoo, on Thursday, August 15. One of the men sustained serious injuries.

According to initial reports, the older man was crossing a pedestrian crossing on his scooter when he was struck at high speed by a younger scooter rider. The accident occurred around 9 PM at the intersection of Huvilinnanmäki and Huvilinnantie.

Witnesses reported that the younger scooter rider left the scene almost immediately after the collision. Bystanders called for help for the injured man, who was later transported to a hospital in serious condition, stated Commissioner Hannu Kontola in a press release.

The police are urging the man who left the scene to come forward to assist with the investigation. Details regarding the charges related to the case will become clearer as the preliminary investigation proceeds.

Late Thursday evening, the situation center of the Western Uusimaa Police informed Yle that the other party involved in the collision had also been taken to the hospital. Initial information indicates that he was seriously injured.
