Men travelled together before fatal Breiðholt clash
The father and son and the man who later died had been travelling together before a clash in Efra-Breiðholt over the weekend, mbl.is reports. The man died from stab wounds and another person was injured.
A man who was travelling with them alerted emergency services and is being treated as a suspect, but has been released from custody. Police believe a passerby may also have reported the incident.
The two injured men were taken to hospital from a shopping centre in Hraunberg. The man who later died was still alive when he was taken from the scene. The other man is in stable condition.
Police chief superintendent Elín Agnes Eide Kristínardóttir said investigators believe the group had been together before the events that led to the clash, but do not yet know what caused it. The men involved are Icelandic. The father and son, who are in custody until November 9, have been interviewed by police.
Reports have suggested the clash may be linked to alleged extortion by the man who died. Kristínardóttir declined to comment on that, saying police are investigating the events following the clash. She said investigators have a fairly good picture of the case but need more time to gather evidence. Police are not seeking further information from witnesses at this stage.
