Half of rent subsidy applicants receive first payments

About half of applicants for rent support received payments on Friday, when the first subsidies were paid, KVF reports. The remaining applications have not yet been processed by the Almannaverkið, the social services agency.
About 520 applications have been received. A total of 263 applicants were granted support on Friday, with payments amounting to 320,000 kroner. The average payment was 1,217 kroner.
The subsidy covers 20 per cent of the rent specified in a tenancy agreement, up to a maximum of 1,500 kroner a month. It decreases as an applicant’s income rises, and no payment is made if the subsidy would be less than 300 kroner.
