An Icelandic Coast Guard helicopter airlifted a crew member from a vessel about 50 kilometres offshore west of the Westfjords, mbl.is reported. The helicopter crew hoisted the person aboard and flew them to Reykjavík.

The helicopter landed in Reykjavík between 5 and 6 p.m. The Coast Guard helicopter unit also responded to a second medical callout earlier in the day, involving an illness on the Snæfellsnes peninsula.

Ásgeir Erlendsson, the Coast Guard’s communications officer, provided the information in response to an inquiry from mbl.is.
