South Greenland Police received no reports during a full 24-hour period over payday weekend, an unusually quiet stretch that DR links to a month-old alcohol ban.

“This is not the typical picture,” said Michael Karstenskov, district chief of South Greenland Police. He said Friday evening and night passed without a single report, even though reports typically rise after payday.

South Greenland Municipality introduced the ban a month ago, partly in response to a murder involving drinking. Police have seen reports fall in the weeks since, but Karstenskov said the quiet weekend made the change particularly noticeable.

The drop in calls has freed officers to finish outstanding cases and strengthen preventive work. They have also been able to focus more on working with the municipality to visit schools and talk about hard drugs.

Karstenskov said police cannot know whether people are drinking at home or about incidents that are never reported. But he said feedback from residents suggests there is a different sense of calm.
