Íris Helga Jónatansdóttir denied making and distributing defamatory flyers or being responsible for syrup being put through a letterbox, allegations reported by mbl.is as her trial opened at Reykjanes District Court on Monday.

She is charged with stalking, defamatory allegations, document forgery, making false accusations and offences under child protection laws. Many of the charges concern her former boyfriend and his partner.

Prosecutors allege that flyers were distributed to homes in Reykjanesbær and Suðurnesjabær accusing the man of harassing young women, possessing child sexual abuse material and photographing children in the neighbourhood.

Other flyers were allegedly left at a Bónus supermarket at Fitjar in Reykjanesbær. Those bearing the man’s name and phone number said he was looking for children to walk his dog. A similar flyer bearing his partner’s name and number advertised free house cleaning, described her as worthless and said she was good at giving sexual massages.

Íris denied the allegations concerning the flyers. She said she had repeatedly asked for surveillance footage from the supermarket to be obtained to prove her innocence, but without success.

She also denied responsibility for syrup being put through her former boyfriend’s partner’s letterbox. Prosecutors said Íris’s daughter told child protection authorities in an interview that she had been made to do things for her parents that were not acceptable, including putting syrup through letterboxes. Íris said child protection officials had pressured her daughter to make that statement.
