Several memorial services for people who died at sea are taking place across the Faroe Islands on All Saints’ Day, KVF reports.

The official memorial for Faroese people who died while working at sea will be held at 2 p.m. at the Maritime College in Tórshavn. Prime Minister Beinir Johannesen will speak, and priest Heri Joensen will lead a devotional service. The Seamen’s Mission is organising the event.

After the service, the prime minister will lay a wreath at the memorial in Viðarlundin woodland park. A church service will be held at Tórshavn Cathedral at 8 p.m.

One person has died at sea in the year since last year’s memorial. Eyðfinn Rólant Johansen, from Miðvágur, died aboard the trawler Stelki on December 14. He was 69.
