A photo exhibition at the Nordic House pairs Faroese designers with women who have moved to the Faroe Islands, KVF reports. The exhibition is part of Multicultural Week and was organised by Altjóðahúsið.

Women with international backgrounds were invited to take part in a professional photoshoot and bring an object that represents their culture. Each woman was paired with a designer, who created a dress based on the object.

One participant, Suellen Gomes, is from Amazonas in northern Brazil. She brought a cocar, an item used by Indigenous people in the region and made from feathers that birds have shed.

Isabel Dinis Winther, from southern Brazil, brought chimarrão, a tea that people share when they are happy, sad or simply chatting. “It’s our drink,” she said.

The exhibition is called Áarmót, translated as “Watersmeet”. Jóna K. Thomsen, an adviser at Altjóðahúsið, said the name is a poetic description of a place where rivers flow together.
