AI-generated school shooter image triggers police response in Janakkala
Police dispatched several patrols to Turengi joint school in Janakkala on Friday after receiving a report of a possible threat to life and health, Yle reported. Officers found no real danger at the school.
The alert came after an image circulated in a group on a messaging app, showing an alleged school shooter inside the school. A pupil under 18 had sent the image, which was probably generated using artificial intelligence. The group’s discussion also suggested the threat might be real, prompting someone to contact emergency services.
Police filed a criminal report for making a false alarm. The force said it takes all school-threat reports seriously and deploys the resources needed to respond. False threats can tie up resources that may be needed for emergencies involving a genuine risk to people’s lives or health.
Authorities said false threats can have consequences. People over 15 are criminally responsible, and those under 15 may also be required to pay compensation for damages.
