A Finnish man is suspected of running an online service used to distribute child sexual abuse material, in a case involving alleged offences from 2017 to 2025, Yle reports. Finland’s National Bureau of Investigation says the service was accessible internationally.
Investigators suspect the man of aggravated distribution of images depicting a child in a sexually explicit way, as well as possession of such images. The agency says the case is unusual because the man is suspected both of distributing the material and maintaining the service.
The investigation began in 2025, after authorities found a large quantity of material depicting sexual violence during a search linked to another criminal investigation. Investigators then uncovered suspicions that the man had operated a dark web site used to distribute child sexual abuse material. They believe a substantial number of files were involved.
The National Bureau of Investigation worked with the East Uusimaa Police Department, Interpol and Europol during the investigation.
