South Ostrobothnia District Court has sentenced a 49-year-old woman to eight years in prison for manslaughter after she stabbed her boyfriend in Karijoki in June, Yle reports.

The woman denied the charge. Prosecutors had sought a prison term of at least nine years. The defence argued that the victim deliberately ran into the knife at the end of an argument.

The court ordered the woman to pay 8,000 euros in compensation for suffering to each of the victim’s three children. The ruling is not yet final.

The man died in a stabbing at a private home in mid-June. Emergency personnel tried to resuscitate him after police arrived, but he died at the home. Police arrested the woman at the scene. Neither the woman nor the victim was from Karijoki, police said.
