Police commissioner convicted of wine fraud risks losing his job
DR reports that a 39-year-old police commissioner risks losing his job after being convicted of fraud and misuse of his position for cheating a border shop out of expensive wine.
The court found that he had swapped most of the bottles in wine cases for more expensive wine on three occasions in summer 2025, paying the price of cheaper wine. The wine was worth a total of 5,000 kroner.
On one occasion, he drove across the border in a police car, leading to the charge of misuse of his position. He was fined 14,500 kroner and ordered to pay Fleggaard 5,000 kroner in compensation.
Rigspolitiet, Denmark’s national police authority, will decide whether he can remain in the force. Under the civil service law, dismissal depends on the seriousness of the crime.
At last week’s court hearing, the commissioner did not speak but admitted through his defence lawyer that he had cheated with the wine and driven a police car across the border. DR said it was seeking a response from Rigspolitiet about the effect of the conviction on his employment.
