Sentences for two men convicted in a fatal 2024 robbery and house fire in Kujala, Lahti, will stand after Finland’s Supreme Court denied them leave to appeal, Yle reported.

Henry Tapio Väänänen and Jouko Tapani Lahtinen were each sentenced to 11 years and three months in prison for manslaughter and aggravated robbery. The sentences were handed down by the Päijät-Häme District Court and upheld by the Eastern Finland Court of Appeal.

The men and others violently robbed a 69-year-old man in his home, then set fires and left. The seriously injured victim was left inside and died from smoke inhalation.

Two other men who took part were sentenced to two years and 11 months in prison for neglect of rescue services and aggravated robbery.
