Outsider attacks first-graders and teachers at Järvenpää school
An outsider behaved aggressively and attacked first-graders and teachers in the yard of Kartanon school in Järvenpää on Wednesday, Yle reported. A few people suffered minor injuries.
Eastern Uusimaa Police confirmed they had been called to the school, but said the person had left before officers arrived. Police know who the person is and are looking into what happens next. No criminal complaint had been filed at the time of publication.
Järvenpää education director Arja Korhonen said the person had approached young pupils and several teachers while they were outside with their class. The person waved their arms and tried to kick them, according to information the school provided to Korhonen.
Teachers brought the children inside, while other pupils were told to stay indoors. Korhonen said she did not know the person’s motive. Police had told the school that the person may be a former pupil.
Kartanon is a comprehensive school with about 900 pupils in grades one to nine. The school planned to arrange support for the whole school, especially those directly affected.
