Police found 5,600 illegal puff bars in a van heading across the Danish-German border at Frøslev on Tuesday morning, DR reports.

A 48-year-old Polish citizen was arrested and charged with aggravated smuggling. He has since been released but remains charged in the case, South and Southern Jutland Police said.

The seized products will be examined to establish their flavours. Sweet flavours in nicotine products are illegal in Denmark.

“We are pleased when we make sure the many puff bars do not end up in Denmark. We are focused on stopping the import of illegal nicotine products, including puff bars,” police commissioner Jan Eichner of UKA Vest said. “They often appeal to children and young people because of their sweet flavours, but also often contain large amounts of nicotine.”

The Danish Customs Agency estimates that nearly 4.5 million kroner in customs duties and taxes went unpaid as a result of the smuggling.
