Arla’s Cheasy vanilla skyr was named Scandinavia’s best, edging out Thise Natural by 0.08 points, DR reports.

The winner scored 14.6 points at the International Food Contest in Herning, where dairy professionals judged cheeses, yoghurt and butter. Thise Natural Skyr placed second with 14.52 points, while Cheasy Forest Berries Skyr came third with 14.4.

Judges from four dairies assessed the products on appearance, consistency, smell and taste, giving each a score of up to 15. The top three skyr products received full marks for appearance and consistency, leaving smell and taste to decide the ranking.

Thise Mejeri representative and judge Jesper Frederiksen said the vanilla flavour had the right balance of sweetness and acidity, along with the expected tang of a fermented milk product. He said all four judges had clearly favoured vanilla.

Frederiksen said Thise was disappointed to lose by such a narrow margin but would try again next year.
