A specialist recruitment fund was essential to Laurits Frøssing’s appointment at the National Hospital, Kringvarp Føroya (KVF) reports. He started work there as a lung disease specialist in September.

The hospital now has three lung disease specialists. Funding from the specialist fund enabled Frøssing to become the third, and securing the job was a condition for moving to the Faroe Islands with his family.

The 2027 budget proposal includes no new allocation for the fund. It received 3.95 million kroner this year.

Frøssing, who has secured the job, fears fewer specialists will be recruited without funding next year. He said the cuts could lead doctors to seek work elsewhere, which would be bad for patients and the health service.
