Residents in Nuuk say the Faroese who made money at Færingehavn should help clear it up, ten years after the government promised to do so, KVF reports.
For decades, Færingehavn, later known as Nordafar, was a commercial centre on Greenland’s west coast, about 50 kilometres south of Nuuk. Nordafar went bankrupt in 1989, leaving the government with losses of many millions.
Kaj Hjalgrímson, from Miðvágur, bought the facility, but a few years later his company, Handelsselskabet Færingehavn ApS, went into voluntary liquidation. Nobody has maintained the facility since.
