Blå Kors receives record 6,880 Christmas aid applications in one day

Blå Kors Danmark received 6,880 applications for Christmas aid from families with children in a single day, a record for the first day of applications, the organisation said in a press release, according to DR.

The number of applications has raised concern for the organisation’s secretary general, Morten Skov Mogensen. He said families were already worrying about how to afford Christmas food and gifts when their money barely covers everyday expenses.

The aid consists of a 700 kroner gift card for Lidl, which families can use to buy food and gifts. It is intended for families with children under 18 living at home whose parents receive transfer income.

Blå Kors Danmark received more than 5,000 applications on the first day last year and more than 23,000 applications in total in 2025.
