The Cancer Society has bought a house in Argir to provide better facilities for people with cancer, their relatives and volunteers as its work grows, KVF reports. The organisation currently operates from rented premises in Tórshavn.
The full project is estimated to cost 13.5 million kroner, but funding has not yet been secured. The house cost 4.7 million kroner, while renovations are expected to cost 8.8 million kroner. The work will include installing a lift and adapting the building to the needs of the organisation and its users.
Betri has contributed 2.5 million kroner. The Cancer Society plans to use funds from its next national fundraising campaign and has also applied for support from government authorities. It intends to seek funding from private foundations as well.
It is not yet clear when the house will be ready to use.
